Meta Tags

What are Meta Tags?
Meta tags are pieces of information located within the HTML file of your website used to define the content of web pages for the search engines.  They are placed within the head area of the HTML file and are not generally visible to web visitors.  Your meta tags determine how the search engines categorize the pages of your website.  The search engine spiders crawl the Internet, and the meta tags they find within the HTML code of the site make it easier for them to display your site in proper and relevant search results.  Meta tags are also displayed in search results listings when the search engines recognize them as accurately representing a web page's content.

There are three types of meta tags that are relevant to your website being indexed properly by the search engines.

   1.)  Title tag
   2.)  Description tag
   3.)  Keyword tag

Having these meta tags properly completed for your website will definitely give you a traffic drawing advantage over those websites without their meta tags correctly addressed.  Many website owners have never heard of meta tags and don't have them properly written in the HTML code of their web pages.  Also, many webmasters make the mistake of using the same meta tag information for each page of their websites.  This is a mistake because each web page has its own theme and needs its own title, description and keyword tags to allow the search engines to properly categorize each page.

Without proper Meta Tag designations in place, you will be shortchanging your website's chances of being properly indexed by many of the search engines and thus reduce the amount of organic traffic your web pages could receive.

• One keyword rich title (Title Tag)
• A 2-4 line keyword rich description (Description tag)
• At least 2 more high ranking keyword phrases (Keyword tag)

Note: It is important that each page of your website has its own unique group of Meta Tags since each page has its own theme and needs its own Title, Description and Keyword Tags to be properly categorized by the search engines.
